CHAPTER ELEVEN

Back at 18 Montpelier Square, the Banovski couple settled in the study with some coffee. Seated at his bureau, Vlad looked at the typewriter and was reminded of what he had noticed earlier. Rather curious, he asked, “What does this mean?”

Emily looked over her coffee cup and replied, “I've told you before, it's just gobbledegook. I was venting my anger.”

Pulling the sheet of paper free from the typewriter, he passed it over to his wife. On doing so, he said, “It doesn't look like gobbledegook to me.” Emily looked at the message, and it read,

“I watch from beyond, as I pass through space and time,

Through the walls and closed doors, of your self-confined mind.

Your perfume excites, and your laughter it delights,

Breathing me life, with the words that you write.”

Somewhat confused, she looked into Vlad's warm, brown eyes and said, “I didn't write it. You know me with poetry. I can just about manage a limerick.”

She purposely made slurping noises as she drank her cup of coffee and looked at her husband with a cross-eyed expression. Vlad tried not to laugh and she asked, “Would you still love me if I stayed like this?” She poked her tongue out and tried to say, “What about this?” But she didn't make much sense at all. She was drunk and acting silly, until she said, “Guess what?” Vlad raised an eyebrow in anticipation and she added, “I'm wearing my new silk corset under all this garb. Do you want to abuse me Mr Banovski?” Without a single word, Vlad finished his coffee, took Emily's slender hand and led her straight upstairs. He was a man on a mission, and the greatly desired lady dropped the sheet of paper. It floated softly to the floor.

With her carnal urges fully satisfied, Emily lay her head upon Vladimir's chest. After much physical exertion, his breathing was heavy and she listened to his pounding heart. His hands ran through her soft auburn hair and she gently kissed his skin. Her hand slid down to his naval and her manicured fingers gently massaged him. Waves of sensory pleasure passed through his body and she turned her head to look into his eyes. Softly, she said, “I love you.”

Vlad gazed back and replied, “I love you too darling.”

Emily quickly responded, “Even though I'm ancient and wrinkly?”

Without a moments hesitation, Vladimir remarked, “You are neither ancient nor wrinkly. You are the prettiest woman to have ever blessed my eyes.”

She bit her lip as she thought, then she asked, “What about Polly? She's young and ever so pretty.” Before he could even answer, she added, “Do you fantasize about her?”

With a huff of disapproval, Vlad replied, Don't even go there Emily. There is no one for me but you. I love you with all my heart.”

In the time it had taken to give an immediate answer, his insecure wife was snoring in a deep sleep. With a kiss to her forehead, he tucked her under the blankets and switched off the light.
